  1. Oddly, eq, I don’t see curiosity, wonder or spontaneous delight as being risky or taking risk. Perhaps my interpretation of Cummings words is skewed. While self-belief is certainly an enabling force, children and people who view experiences through an innocent lens don’t necessarily possess or are guided by self-belief.

This is a beautiful message, one that obviously gave me pause. Thank you for sharing it. 🙂

    • Eric, it is wonderful to hear from you!

I cannot claim to know what e.e. cummings thought precisely, but I can appreciate the words and possible meaning.

Ego, aggression, and control against someone can make self-expression risky. It exists in opposition to empathy, kindness, compassion and inclusion.

For those who view the world more innocently, the safety to express an opinion or make a personal choice is learned through experience, and creates such confidence.

Certainly, for those who grieve, clarity, curiosity, and wonder take a great deal of self belief and courage to begin anew.

Thank you for your comment ~ I appreciate the opportunity to share our strong opinions and idealism. 🙂

  2. This is absolutely right. Without belief in ourselves, we are self-imprisoned by our inhibitions. We need to let go of fear and self-doubt and live.
